Angela Callais, Finding your Therapy + WW Woes
show notes:
Welcome to season 2 episode 8 of Matter of Fat: a body positive podcast with Midwest sensibilities! Co-hosts Cat Polivoda and Saraya Boghani highlight community voices with a focus on body size, body positivity, & fat liberation.
The Fat Dish is rife with good news and exciting updates! First and foremost, Flyover is hosting their inaugural event in the Midwest featuring Lindy West and Sam Irby. The event is on October 12th and will feature the two in conversation discussing their work, life, contemporary culture, and body image. Get your tickets! UPDATE: This event was suddenly cancelled shortly before October 12th and did not take place.
Cat and Saraya were delighted to attend the 2019 MN Fringe Festival show Size and recapped the success of KFAI's Summer pledge drive. Thanks to Kristine Ramsay-Seaner, Harry Minot, & Anna Loth Gresser for their amazing contributions! Keep up with KFAI by collecting all the fabulous radio personality trading cards. Check the links below for more info.
Cat caught us up on the success of this summer’s fat splashes and mentions a beautiful write up in the City Pages. Cat was also able to see the Rose Academy of Burlesque’s student showcase and mentions future participation on a panel about sustainable fashion this September 4th. While Cat shared the joy of completing Jane the Virgin, Saraya offered some viewing suggestions: Fleabag, Four Weddings and a Funeral TV series, and the movie Plus One. Just, like, the opposite of Cat’s suggestion. Saraya’s been busy with grad school and joining the ranks of iPhone users. While she’s loving it she implores us to not let blue and green speech bubbles divide us all.
The interview is so good and it’s with Angela Callais! Angela is a Minneapolis-based speaker, therapist, and entrepreneur. She shares her own story and great advice on how to find a therapy provider and methodology that works for you. It is a frank and insightful conversation with a very rad therapist.
The Dirt and Discourse is hella topical to release date. Weight Watchers or WW or whatever the new rebrand is just released a weight loss program for children called Kurbo and the ladies call BS. Listen in for some takes on the harm in behavior and food modifications and check the links for some good reading.
Thanks for listening and reading! Make sure to rate and review to help MoF engage with the algorithm and engage with the MoF hosts further through the Friends and Fans Facebook group. Thanks to KFAI!
