Welcome to season 2 episode 7 of Matter of Fat: a body positive podcast with Midwest sensibilities! Co-hosts Cat Polivoda and Saraya Boghani highlight community voices with a focus on body size, body positivity, & fat liberation.
The Fat Dish is popping! There will be a Big Babywearing class on the day of release. Both ladies are psyched to attend the MN Fringe show Size. The Fat Folx Ensemble present Fat Fest in Chicago from August 10th to the 11th. The Smitten Kitten will be hosting a Fat Sex 101: Fat Sex for Beginners on August 11th. Real Life Coffee and Yoga will be hosting a book group featuring “Fearing the Black Body: The Racial Origins of Fatphobia” on August 15th. ALSO! As for personal dish, Cat loves audio books and talks about meeting a favorite author Jasmine Guillory, both gals finally experienced the timeless magic of the Riverview Theater. Saraya is out of touch with the youths and Fat Girl Fall but is excited about finding a new doctor and figuring out if she’s haunted or into sleep walking. Both lasses wax poetic on their dreamy experience at the Fat Splash.
The guest this episode is the original Amy Siegel. Amy is a beam of joy and tells us about growing up and making space for herself and others, a budding burlesque experience, dominating the women’s arm wrestling arena, giving us all the insight into Mall life *meow*, and extolling the virtues of building a virtual community of music lovers through the Suga Network and the Emotional Response Hour, her history with Wynonna Judd, and a take on Old Town Road. Let it be noted that OTR (not to be confused with Jay and Bey’s On the Run) was just breaking at the time of this interview. Here’s to Lil Nas X and his endless remixes so this is still relevant. Saraya has no regrets for this question.
The Dirt and Discourse is quick and dirrty. Maybe you know, maybe you don’t. Forever 21 sent a buncha diet bars in their packages and there was a HULLABALOO. The gals, bless their hearts, are not fazed or surprised by F21 making poor decision. Cat does love a good lemon bar, tho.
