Welcome to the fourth episode of Matter of Fat: a body positive podcast with Midwest sensibilities! Co-hosts Cat Polivoda and Saraya Boghani highlight community voices with a lens on body size, body positivity, & fat liberation.
We update each other on what's happpening in the Twin Cities and our lives during The Fat Dish, talk with our guest Jessica Zaldivar about her story as a matter of fat, and dive into the Dirt and Discourse. This episode originally aired on September 26th 2018.
Saraya shares nostalgia for Back Street Boys, finishing a class, and her new hobby for traversing through neighborhoods and picking out dream houses. Cat talked about her work with Angela Callais, Deeva Rose, and an exciting event for Fashion Week Minnesota. Both larger ladies enjoyed Blackkklansman, To All the Boys I've Loved Before, and the return of She's All Fat.
Saraya mentions that Amber Karnes of Body Positivity Yoga will be in Minnesota from October 5th through the 7th. The Big Fat Super Swap is also coming up on October 20th with the Inbetweenie Super Swap on October 14th.
The interview with Jessica focuses on her work in the medical field as well as what it's like to be a fat person navigating medical care. She's got some great tips on how to advocate for yourself while also recognizing that it's not always easy. She also shares some exciting news on traveling to another part of the world and the thoughts and considerations of being fat beyond the US.
